VHF SHORT RANGE RADIO CERTIFICATE
Objectives
 
To qualify a anyone who uses the water, from the offshore power or sailing yachtsman to the canoeist or diver to legally  use a short range radio confidently and to enable them to use the radio for emergency situations
Course Content
 
Introduces the student to:
  • How to use the radio - voice procedure
  • What it can and can not be used for
  • How radios work
  • Emergency procedures - Mayday, Pan Pan and Securite
  • Emergency electronic location devices - EPIRBs, PLBs and SARTs
  • Licencing and radio law.

    Process and Result
     
    This is an interactive course that enables the student to study in their own time at their own pace using the RYA VHF Handbook (G31) and the online material. 
    Once confident the student takes a multiple choice test online which on passing subsequently followed by a face to face practical test with one of our examiners. 
    On successful; completion the student is then qualified for a  restricted user short range VHF certificate
